“I must tell you by way of Preface, that before you read this letter you will be pleased to observe that I intend it should be just such as one, a young Misses of your age usually write to one another “The writer who is on holiday from school – “we have had a very Merry Holiday; but as I was drinking tea with Miss what do ye call her you know who I mean…..”. She continues with a discussion of clothes she is making and ends the letter by saying that she is in bed writing this letter as it has to be written by “nine o’clock in the morning” She ends with a postscript “N.B. you will see by the letter that I assume the Character of a young Lady”.
