The Treaty of Ryswyck signed on the 20th September 1697 settled the War of the League of Augsburgh known as the Nine Years War a great part of which was fought over possessions in North American and the Caribbean where it was known as the King Williams War. Large changes occurred in mainland America with French Colonies being involved as well as dispute over Englands claim to Hudson Bay. In the Caribbean French control of Tortuga and the western third of the island of Hispaniola was recognised.
