Product Description

On the subject of a portrait of Frederick, Prince of Wales and his Royal Sisters which had come into Thicknesse?s hand by chance through his third wife, Anna, and which he had mentioned to a French parson by the name of Dutens. It appears that the location of the picture had become unknown, although he was under the impression that it was now with the Queen, wife of George III and he is requesting of her some compensation as it has value or else its return. It is interesting that Thicknesse was going public with this situation by issuing this very rare privately published ?letter?. The matter was further detailed at some length in his published Memoirs, in which he describes the manner in which the picture was eventually retrieved. ESTC on line (L; Y only)
