Product Description

A satire on the State and the High Church Party. It shows a long procession containing amongst others many Jesuits winding their way towards Canterbury. A Skimington was a ludicrous cavalcade. In this satire the Church is the Termagant Wife, the State the hen-pecked husband, and the whole is intended to ridicule the pretensions ascribed to the High Church party, which is here particularly represented by Bishop Gibson.
