Product Description

A Satire on the divided loyalty of Bubb Doddington who had been made Treasurer of the Navy by George II in 1744, but resigned to follow the Prince of Wales. Upon the Prince’s death he tried to return his loyalty to George II. In this satire he is shown approaching the King, whilst in the background is a parallel of divided loyalty. Doddington had invited the American born writer, James Ralph, editor of the “Remembrancer” to dinner. He sent his Welsh driver to collect him but turned up with a cart. This was shortly rectified by the rapid replacement of a coach. Both cart and coach are shown in the background of this print. BM. No. 3123
