Product Description

A Satire on the tenth in Tithes, probably prompted by the Court case in 1824 between “Lewis and another v Young, Bart.” The illustration shows the Parson arriving to collect his tenth Tithe to be presented with a hat box within which is a miniature soldier. The housewife says ” Seeing your Reverence comeing for your Tithes, I have brought you a Tenth” to which the Parson responds ” Take it back! take it back! good Woman. I never Tithe Monkeys”. BM.
